Writing thank you cards is a way to show your thoughtfulness to a friend or family member for a gift or something that they have done for you. Here are a few tips to write thank you cards.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • thank you cards
  • nice pen
  • stamps
  1. Step 1
Say thank you verbally first if possible.
Say thank you verbally first if possible.

The first step when receiving a gift is to acknowledge your appreciation by saying thank you if the person is present when you receive the gift. If you receive the gift in the mail follow up immediately with a phone call so the person knows that you did receive the gift.

  2. Step 2
    Cute cats!

Next write the actual thank you card. Depending on the occasion, you may want to use cards that have certain sayings on the front. For example, if you received baby shower gifts, find a cute little card that was similar to your theme. If you had teddy bears then send cards that have a teddy bear on them. Or if a friend does something special for you such as babysitting your children while you and your husband go on a date, send her a thank you card.

  3. Step 3
    Write you own message

Sometimes cards are already pre printed inside, however, I suggest that you buy cards that are blank inside. This way you can write a personal note. For example, if you are writing wedding thank you cards then you may want to write something like this:

    Dear Tonya,

Thank you so much for the food processor. We can not wait to use it. Thank you again for sharing in our special day.

    Love,
    Carmen and Bobby

This way you acknowledge your friend's presence at the wedding and the gift.

  4. Step 4
    Mail in a timely manner
    Mail in a timely manner

After you have written the card, please send it out in a timely manner. No later than two weeks. If you are receiving gifts before the occasion, there is no reason to wait until after the event takes place. Begin sending the cards out when you receive the gifts. This will cut down time writing thank you cards even after the event especially if it is a wedding.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep track of the presents you receive along with the person's name in a journal.
  • Keep generic thank you cards on hand. You never know when you may receive a surprise gift.
  • Look in the clearance section of stationary departments of stores like Target and Walmart. They always have cute thank you cards on clearance that you can stock up on.
  • Give thank you card kits as gifts.

on 6/16/2009 Thank you cards are so simple and yet so meaningful. It's also a good idea to write a thank you note after a job interview. Gratitude is a blessing for YOU, and others enjoy it too. 5*
