How to Talk To Your Parents About Sex

If you have questions about sex, one of your best sources can be your parents.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a list of all of the questions that you have about sex. Think them through. No question is too silly or stupid. If it is a question that you genuinely want to know, write it down.

  2. Step 2

Tell your mom, dad, or both that you have some questions about sex and would like for them to answer them honestly. It may be really hard for you to work up the courage to tell them you have questions. If it will help you, send them an email or letter telling them what you want to talk to them about. That way you might not be so embarrassed, and they can have a chance to absorb what you've just asked. It may also help with their embarrassment too!

  3. Step 3

Show them your list of questions about sex or just ask them to your parents. You could even keep your email going with the questions. Let your parents know if you are thinking about having sex or if your questions are just out of pure curiosity. Sometimes you may have lots of questions, but that doesn't mean that you are about to go have sex!

  4. Step 4

Once you have established this communication with your parents, keep it going! Talk to them about things often. Your parents are really your best source of information. They will (most of the time) give you real answers and can even give you life experiences and solid advice. You honestly cannot trust the things you learn on TV and from your friends about sex. Trust an adult who cares about you and loves you to give you this information.
