Step 1
If you are bringing hibiscus plants home from the nursery, make sure to not expose them to much sun. Grow them in a partially shaded area until they are used to their new environment.
-
Step 2
Select soil that is rich with nutrients and drains well. Hibiscus plants do not look standing water. If your hibiscus plants are left in standing water, their roots will begin to rot easily.
-
Step 3
Fertilize your hibiscus plants often. They require a lot of nutrients to fully bloom. Never use a fertilizer that has higher nitrogen than any other nutrient.
-
Step 4
Once your hibiscus is nearing maturity, you need to prune it back. Prune it back to at least 1/3 its size.
-
Step 5
If you have your hibiscus living in a pot, make sure to do root pruning often. Potted hibiscus can become seriously root bound after two or three years in the same pot. Most will
benefit from root pruning.
