This article will help you plan your move. These are the steps I took when planing my move. If your have always wanted to live someone you can do it. If the there are no jobs in your area or the job you want this article is for you.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drive
  • Need to move
  • Computer
  • Save
  • Plan
  1. Step 1

Research the area you want to move to as soon as you know you want to move. Start a moving savings account. If you have a family have everyone add to it. My kids find pennies and are happy to add to the moving account even if one of them is not so happy about moving. Visit the area you want to move to. You should have two or three apartments you can afford on your list. If you have to flight there, rent a car and visit the apartment or house. Apply to rent there and put a deposit down before you flight back home. Try to pay off the first months rent before you get there.

  2. Step 2

If you can transfer with your job great if not apply online 8 weeks before you move. If you apply online update to your new address on your resume. Update any online applications the week before you disconnect your internet.

  3. Step 3

Research different moving companies and get quote. Move the cheapest way you can. Rent a truck, pack it and then pack your belongs on the moving truck. Then rent a truck at your new location, unpack the moving truck at the company site and unpack the truck at your new home.

  4. Step 4

8 weeks before your move keep researching and pack, donate or rid items. If you are driving more than a day to your new town. Book your hotel rooms with a discount agency like hotel.com. Call around for best prices. Your rooms are paid for, one less thing to pay for the week you move. Pack items you don't use first. Get free boxes from stores that disregard them. Pack kids room first throughout the following weeks. Less stress that way..

  5. Step 5

If you are renting an apartment call them 10 or 8 weeks before your move. I found my apartment a year before I would move. I called them 12 weeks before our move and was given an apartment address.

  6. Step 6

4 weeks before you move contact your utility companies and other companies to cancel or transfer your account. Call all utility company to set up start date for the day you move into your new apartment. I would pack some kitchen items you don't use from now. Make a car appointment at your car dealerships or auto shop.

  7. Step 7

3 weeks before you move plan a small healthy car snack for the trip along with buying water for the cooler. Pack your travel and entertainment bag. Also pack a bag of items you will need before you unpack your belongs. You can pack one all purpose cleaner for your first day or buy it when you get there.

  8. Step 8

2 weeks before you leave clean the refrigerator and oven. You don't want a big job on your hands.

  9. Step 9

1 week before you leave have almost everything packed. Microwave and TV are the last things to have packed. Try not to have first too close to moving. Less stress that way.

  10. Step 10

3 days before your move pack TV and return cable box. If you have kids pack last items. Call the moving company and let them know you will be there tomorrow.

  11. Step 11

2 days before you leave you pick up your moving truck. Pack it up and drive it to the other moving company site. Pack your belongs onto the trailer. Take a break when you get home. Check your car and top off car fuels. Get some sleep. The trailer will be at your new city in a week. It can sit there for about three days without paying extra fees.

  12. Step 12

Today is your moving day. Take cat naps. If you are driving I would leave late at night. Your apartment office should have a mail slot on the door. Put your apartment keys in an envelope with your name current address and new address.(Your vacany letter 60 or 30 days ago already has new address listed). Now you are hitting the road. Good luck. You are moving to where you have always wanted to live.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have paper towel, wash cloths, plastic bags in car.
  • Pack a cleaning bag for your new apartment.
  • Pack a bag for items you will need like tea, coffee/ coffee pot.
  • Book your hotels rooms 2 months ahead.
  • Now you know how far you will drive the first day.
  • In person 60 or 30 days before your moving date, make two copies of a notice to vacate letter and have the apartment sign or stamp it.
