Step 1
Memorable GiftsCHOOSE EXPERIENCE VS. MATERIAL - The first thing you will want to think about is whether to give your significant other a material gift, an experience gift or a combination of the two.
Experience gifts have the advantage of creating a memory which will last a life time. Depending on which activity you choose, it can be less expensive or more expensive than a material gift. If you choose an experience gift put a lot of thought, time and effort into creating the perfect unique experience for YOUR significant other.
Material gifts may be pricey, but also forgettable. If you choose to buy a material gift, choose one which is either personal and unique to your significant other or is grand and expensive. Also consider buying something which will be in sight or use for many years. Ex: a pool, diamond ring, air hockey set. A material gift could also be a scrapbook or memory book which will be valued very much.
Combination gifts may have an adventure once in a life time element and end with a dinner and material gift. Gifts can be large or small with this kind of anniversary gift. -
Step 2
IdeasBRAINSTORM LIKES/DISLIKES - Now that you have started what type of anniversary gift idea you want, it is time to delve into your significant others' likes and dislikes.
Write out the type of activities your significant other enjoys. For example: outdoor activities, extreme sport activities, upscale activities, dramatic activities, etc.
Write down things your significant other used to do and love, but haven't gotten to do in a long time.
Search your memory for things he/she has said they always wanted to do, but haven't gotten a chance to do yet.
*For a material gift, consider getting something that goes along w/ his or her favorite activities or things they want to do. Consider planning an event in the future to go along with it. -
Step 3
Listen for HintsPAY ATTENTION TO HINTING - Men and women will hint about what they want for an anniversary gift. This can begin up to 6 months in advance. Do not ignore hinting, especially if it is excessive. Even if you feel what you are planning is better, get what he/she has been hinting about as well, or consider getting an upgrade to what he/she is hinting about.
For example: if your wife is hinting that she wants the carpets professionally cleaned (which is completely unromantic.) Consider taking her out for her favorite dessert while the carpet is getting cleaned. Have a confidant decorate the house with flowers and make sure the kids have babysitters for the night. Maybe have heart cutouts to walk on towards the bedroom. Then wine, board games, movie, etc. -
Step 4
FriendsTALK TO CLOSE FRIENDS - If you have a great anniversary gift idea, it is always good to talk to his/her close close friends and get their input. Most likely they have at one time told their close friends something they have always wanted to do or something they want you to do.
*Make sure you choose a friend who is extremely close with your significant other and not one that, persay, you are closer to. Also make sure she/he will not tell your significant other.
