A fairy themed décor is a beautiful way to adorn a girl’s bedroom. This theme can be used for a newborn’s nursery and with slight modifications as time passes, carried through well into the big girl years.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Think about your fairy style. When planning a fairy bedroom, you want to think about the type of fairy you will use in the room. The décor elements chosen should complement these fairies. If your child is a fan of Tinkerbell, for instance, you may want to browse the different beddings, statues, wall stickers and accessories available in the Disney fairy theme and base your paint colors and other items accordingly. If you are going for a woodland fairy or enchanted forest theme, choosing your colors and decorations should fit in with that theme.

  2. Step 2

Select a paint color. Pale pastels work well for a light and airy space. Lavenders and sage greens also work well for that forest fairy look. You may want to add a stencil, wallpaper border or mural to the room, so choose colors that will match well. A shimmery effect on the walls is also pretty in the fairy bedroom; some glitter mixed in your paint can add this touch. Decide if you want to paint the ceiling and add stars or clouds.

  3. Step 3

Choose fabrics. An important element to the fairy themed bedroom is fabric. Light, sheer, shimmery fabrics work best. Curtains, window scarves, canopies all in a sheer texture add that flowing effect. Sheer fabric with sparkly appliqués looks beautiful in this room. You can drape the fabric from anywhere such as over the bed, from the ceiling or over closet doors. You can select bedding that is fairy themed or just use bedding that matches with your fabrics.

  4. Step 4

Add lighting elements. Lighting is important in this fairy themed bedroom. White Christmas lights are a wonderful addition and can look like twinkling stars or fairy lights. Paper lanterns are another element that fit in with the light fabric theme. Or you may wish to purchase fairy statue lamps, depending on your overall fairy theme.

  5. Step 5

Decorate the walls. Wall stickers in several fairy designs can be found in craft stores, dollar stores, through internet searches or on ebay. The fun thing about these is that they can be removed and reapplied to another spot in the room easily, so you can change often if you wish.

  6. Step 6

Accessorize. Some other elements you may want to consider are floral/tree branch accessories, fairy dolls, pillows, rugs and fairy picture frames, shelves and mirrors. There are many options available and once your room starts to come together, you will know what will work best for this fairy themed bedroom.
