How to Rewrite on CD-RWs

CD-RWs have become the most innovative, yet cost efficient ways to transfer digital music files for playback. These CDs are so popular because of their unique "recycling" amenity. CD-RWs are the only audio formatted discs that can be erases and reused for consistent utilization. Rewriting CD-RWs is a highly comprehensible procedure that can be conducted by all computer users.

      Insert the CD-RW you would like to rewrite. Bypass the "AutoPlay" screen that will open once your computer detects the CD-RW.

      Open your computer's Windows Explorer. Click on the Start menu icon on your computer's taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Locate and select the Windows Explorer folder tab.

      Erase the CD-RW. When Windows Explorer opens, you will see a blue navigation menu across the top of the screen. Click on the "Erase this Disc" option to begin removing the current files from the disc. A pop-up window will prompt you to confirm whether or not you would like to continue to the actual removal process. Click "OK" to proceed. (It will take approximately 60 seconds to 2 minutes to remove all of the files from the disc.)

      Transfer new files. Open your Windows Media Player. Click on the "Burn" tab at the top of the Windows Media Player Navigation menu. Hold the "CTRL" key down on your computer's keyboard, highlight and select the files you wish to transfer to the CD-RW.

      Rewrite the CD-RW. Drag the highlighted files to the "Burn" pane, located on the right side of your Windows Media Player screen. Click on the "Start Burn" option to begin rewriting the disc. The disc will automatically eject from the computer's CD-ROM door when the rewriting process is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is always best to place CD-RWs in hard cases for safety purposes. These type of blank CDs are usually more expensive, therefore, it is important not to defect them.

  • Make sure your CD-RW is not damaged in any manner. If the disc is damaged in any way, you may not be able to erase or rewrite the CD-RW.
