Building from foam is a great way to make a construction or craft project quickly and simply. Foam is lightweight and fun to work with. Most people have trouble with cutting and gluing foam, so here are ways of working with this interesting material.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electric knife for cutting meat (such as for carving turkeys)
  • Foam adhesive or Gorilla Glue
  • Low-tack tape
  • Craft knife
  1. Step 1

Cut the foam into your desired pieces. The electric knife cuts foam as well or better than tools designed specifically for the job at a much reduced price. You can cut both straight lines and curves with the electric knife.

  2. Step 2

Use the craft knife to cut smaller pieces and to carve details into your foam. You can do this step either before or after any gluing steps.

  3. Step 3

Spray a bit of the foam adhesive glue on both surfaces that will be attached.

  4. Step 4

    Stick the pieces together.

  5. Step 5

Tape the pieces into place until the glue dries if needed, depending on the drying time of your particular glue.

  6. Step 6

Use Gorilla Glue if you cannot readily find spray foam adhesive. You will most definitely need to tape the pieces while they dry when using this glue.
