How to Blend Two Colors Together in Paintshop Pro

Paintshop Pro makes it relatively easy to create beautiful works of art that are completely digital but that have the natural appeal of hand-painted works. One of the many tools in Paintshop Pro that allows for this realism is the blending tool, which can blend any two colors or pictures in nearly two dozen different ways. Using the blending tool is easy, but mastering it takes a bit of practice and experimentation.

    • 3

Click the "New Layer" button on the floating toolbar to create a new image layer. Then click the color fill icon on the toolbar and choose your fill color in the color palette at the bottom. Click inside the new image window to fill it with your first color.

Look at the "Layers Palette," which is a smaller floating window off to the side of the image window. Both of the color fill layers will be listed. Click either layer once to highlight it, then look on the right side of the"Layers Palette" for a field labeled "Blend Mode." Click this field to see a drop-down menu of all the different blend styles. Each time you select a new blend style, the change will be immediately reflected in the image window. This way you can see them all and decide which one best suits your needs.

Tips & Warnings

  • With the exception of the background layer, this color blending technique will work with any image layers, even photo layers. Detailed descriptions of each of the different blend modes can be found within the software's "Help" menu.
