When you are managing your digital audio collection, one of the most cumbersome tasks to deal with is converting all your files into the same format. Although Real Audio files have great quality, if you want to play your files using a personal music player, chances are good that they are incompatible. Luckily, thanks to a freeware program called Format Factory, converting Real Audio files to MP3 is both easy and efficient.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download the Format Factory program (see Resources). This is a free program that will allow you to convert all your Real Audio files (as well as any other type of audio file) into the MP3 format.

  2. Step 2

Put all your Real Audio files into a central location. It is usually simplest if you make a dedicated folder on the desktop and then drag all your files to it.

  3. Step 3

Make a new folder. Don't put anything in it, as this is where all of your converted files will go.

  4. Step 4

Launch Format Factory. Click on the "Audio" tab on the left, and then the "All to MP3" icon. A window will pop up. Click on the "Add Folder" button. Select the folder you made in step 2 with all the Real Audio files. then select all the files with the cursor and press the OK button.

  5. Step 5

Go to the top of the program window and press the Option button. Go to the Output Folder area and then browse for the empty folder you created in Step 3. Once this is finished, you are ready to go. Just press the start button, and your files will begin the conversion process and start appearing in your output folder.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once you are finished converting your Real Audio files, you can delete the originals, as they are now duplicates.
