Decide where your donation will go. Check with your local Red Cross chapter to see if there is a pressing need for bottled water in your area. Perhaps there is an effort underway to assist the homeless. Call your chamber of commerce, and ask if there are upcoming charitable sporting events that would appreciate a donation. Charitable organizations and nonprofits carry tax identification numbers that allow you to claim your purchase on your tax return. The manager of the store may give you a discount or even foot the bill, if he knows you are donating the water bottles.

Deliver the water to the site. If you are donating to the Red Cross, Salvation Army or a local nonprofit organization, the person receiving the donation should give you a receipt of contribution. If not, ask for one. This will have all the necessary tax information you will need to claim your donation.
