How to Make Liquid Soap Bubbles

Blowing bubbles is one of the quintessential things of summer. It can be even more fun if the kids make their own bubble solution instead of purchasing bubbles at the store. Liquid soap bubbles make a thinner bubble solution than commercial bubbles, thus making larger bubbles as well. Liquid soap is too thick to be used alone, but common ingredients are all that needs to be added. Mixing up a big batch of bubbles is sure to relieve the summer doldrums.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure out 2 1/2 quarts of water. Pour into the bowl.

    • 2

Measure out and pour into the bowl 1/2 cup light corn syrup and 1 cup liquid dish washing soap. Pour these in slowly so the solution doesn't form suds or foam.

    • 3

Gently mix together the ingredients with a spoon. Be careful not to overagitate the water in order to avoid suds. If suds do form, set the solution aside until the suds all pop, and the solution is smooth again.

    • 4

Dip the bubble wand into the solution and remove it gently so there is a thin film of bubble solution on the wand opening. Blow gently through the opening to make the film turn into a bubble.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use glycerin instead of corn syrup. If you don't have bubble wands, make your own by twisting a coat hanger into a loop using the hook as the handle. Add a drop or two of liquid food coloring to the solution to make colored bubbles.

  • If you have hard water, you will need to use distilled water.
