How to Burp a Maltese Puppy
While most Maltese bitches make excellent mothers, occasionally there may be one that either can't or just isn't interested in taking care of her pups. If you find yourself as a sudden mother of a litter of squirming, hungry Maltese puppies, you must take diligent care to do exactly what their mother should have done, and that includes burping the pups during and following each meal.

Rub your Maltese's back and sides in a firm up and down motion until you hear or feel it release trapped air. Be mindful that Maltese puppies are tiny and delicate, so be gentle. If the rubbing does not help the puppy to burp, move on to step 3.

Continue feeding your Maltese. When it has finished eating, repeat steps 1 through 3.
Tips & Warnings
Always feed Maltese puppies while they are lying on their tummies, not on their backs. Make sure you burp your puppies well before putting them to bed.
If you find yourself suddenly raising abandoned or orphaned Maltese puppies, don't try to do alone. Always consult your veterinarian. Puppies, especially toy breeds like the Maltese, have extremely delicate systems and need precise care.
