1
Delete unused software programs. When you free up space on your hard drive by deleting programs, your computer will run faster. Select Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Select the programs you want to remove.
-
2
Copy and delete unused files. If you are 100 percent sure you will never use the file again, delete it. However, if you do not use the files often and think you may need them again, back them up on a flash drive or to a CD before you delete them. When you are ready to delete a file, click "Delete" on your keyboard and verify the operation when the pop-up verification appears.

Use the Disk Defragmenter tool to clean up your computer's hard drive. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Disk Defragmenter. This process can take several hours, depending on the condition of your hard drive.

Upgrade your processor and memory. These are the 2 components that determine the speed of your computer's operation. Consult a professional if you are unsure how to perform this upgrade.
