Get Your Newborn Baby to Stop Crying

When your newborn baby is just home from the hospital, it's hard to hear the little one cry. Babies usually cry for two main reasons: either they're hungry or they have gas. Unfortunately, sometimes your baby is neither hungry nor gassy, and is still wailing. Here's how to how to stop a crying baby.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, ascertain your baby is not hungry or gassy. Does your baby refuse to feed? Did you try burping the baby? Did you make sure baby doesn't need to be changed? Good. Now it's time to stop the baby crying.

  2. Step 2

Hold your baby sideways in front of you, close to your midsection. You want to try to duplicate the position your baby was in while in utero.

  3. Step 3

While holding baby close, lean down and make a loud "Shhh" sound in the baby's ears. This sound mimics the sounds your baby heard in the womb. Keep "Shhh"-ing for as long as you can, stopping only for deep breaths.

  4. Step 4

Your baby will either fall off to sleep or get a glazed look in his eyes. Keep "Shhh"-ing until this happens.
