How to Do a Hot Stone Pedicure
Using hot stones and massage oils can enhance a pedicure experience. Basalt stones are commonly used in the massage because of basalt's high iron content and its ability to hold heat. Used in combination with essential oils, a hot stone pedicure aids in relaxation. Hot stone pedicures are usually done in day spas, but treatments can be done at home as well. Things You'll Need
- Crock pot or warming pan
- Stones
- Bucket or pan
- Clean, dry towels
- Epsom salt
- Paraffin wax
- Loofah sponge
- Essential oils or lotion
- Toenail clippers
- Nail file
- Cuticle cream
- Nail polish
- Toe separator

Warm the stones. A crock pot or warming trays can be used. The heat should be no more than 125 degrees.

Soak your feet in warm water. Add Epsom salt to relieve stress and muscle aches.

Exfoliate the feet using a loofah sponge. Rub the heels, sides and feet and any rough areas. Wash your feet when finished.

Dip the feet in warm paraffin wax. The wax will moisturize and soften the skin. Keep the paraffin wax on the skin for 10 minutes before rinsing.

Dry hot stones with a clean towel. Place the hot stones between each toe and wrap the feet with a towel. Place a hot stone on each thigh and cover with a towel. Place a hot stone in each hand. Leave in place for 7 to 10 minutes.

Remove the stones and place them back into the water, leaving one stone out. Massage the feet and calves with essential oil. Using the remaining hot stone, rub the feet, arches and calves.

Clip the toenails, cutting straight across. A straight cut will prevent ingrown toenails.

Push the cuticles back. Use cuticle cream to soften, if necessary.

Massage the feet using lotion or essential oils. Lavender oil promotes relaxation and is commonly used in massage. Other oils include grape seed, olive and rose oils.

Choose a toenail polish and paint toes. A clear coat can be added to prevent chipping. Let dry using a toenail separator.
