Candles in glass holders add a wonderful touch of elegance to a table or room. Glass candle holders can be quite expensive, though. Here is a quick and easy way to make unique and beautiful glass candle holders out of material you already have.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Candle
  • Glass container you would like to make into a candle holder.
  • Small objects that carry collective weight (colored glass beads, marbles, pea-size stones, coffee beans, jelly beans, sand)
  1. Step 1

Take your candle and measure its diameter. There are many types of candles (votives, tea lights, tapers, pillars, etc.), and each has its own dimensions.

  2. Step 2

Find a glass container that you want to use as a candle holder and measure the diameter of its opening. It can be a jar, bottle or glass, to name a few. The minimum requirement is that the container's opening has to be wider than the diameter of the candle you want to use in it.

  3. Step 3

Gather together your small, weighted material. Its use will be two-fold; first, to hold the candle securely upright in the holder; and second, as a decorative element to your setting.

  4. Step 4

Place the candle in the center of the container and hold it steady with one hand. With the other hand, fill the container with your weighted material. Make sure to keep the candle upright and straight as you fill the container.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use drip-less candles so there won't be any messy wax to clean up. Think about interesting color combinations between the candle and the weighted material. Using glass beads for the weighted material will add an extra glow to the setting as you burn the candles at night.
  • To avoid a fire hazard, it is crucial that the candle be set securely in the glass container so it does not tip over if bumped accidentally. This means that if you are using a slender candle like a taper, it has to be set at least 2 to 3 inches into the weighted material. The lighter the material, the deeper the candle will be need to be set.
