Toddlers love butterflies. Make a butterfly costume for your toddler that she will be proud to wear. A butterfly costume doesn't cost much to make and your child will have a prize winning costume in no time. Your butterfly costume can be made to match any color or theme. You can even make your child's costume match real butterfly wings by copying your design from a photo or painting of a butterfly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Leggings (in your child's size)
  • Leotard (in your child's size)
  • 20 inch by 20 inch piece of cardboard
  • Acrylic paints
  • Hole Punch
  • 20 inches of elastic
  1. Step 1

Draw a butterfly shape onto the cardboard that measures at least 16 inches by 16 inches. Cut out the butterfly wings using sharp scissors or a box cutter.

  2. Step 2

Paint one side of the cardboard with acrylic paint that matches the leggings and leotard. You may want to use two or more complimentary colors to add designs to the butterfly wings. Allow the paint to dry and then paint a duplicate design onto the opposite side of the cardboard.

  3. Step 3

Punch two holes about 2 inches apart at the bottom of the middle of the butterfly wings using a standard sized hole punch.

  4. Step 4

Thread the elastic through the holes on the butterfly wings and tie one end into a knot.

  5. Step 5

Dress the child in matching leggings and leotard. Wrap the elastic around your toddler and pull it snuggly around her waist. Tie the loose end of elastic into a tight knot through the second hole in the butterfly wings. Your toddler is now ready to show off her butterfly costume.
