Plan to visit garage sales. Make an inexpensive offer on all the books for sale. The key to profiting from this source is bargaining.

Go to local thrift stores. Find out what days they are having their sales and be first in line to pick out the best books.
Step 3

Check out online websites like craigslist.org. Many people list books for free. You may be able to build a good starter inventory by simply picking up these free books.

Visit local used bookstores. Watch for sale days. Thoroughly peruse the bargain racks. What does not sell well in a brick-and-mortar location may be a treasure to the online seller.

Search wholesale bookstores online. Check these on a regular basis because their offerings change weekly. You may be able to find 1 book to buy in bulk that will earn you a great profit.

Tips & Warnings

Donate any books that do not earn a good profit. Space is a valuable asset and you do not want it taken up by books that are not worth selling online. The same books that turn a profit in a bookstore will likely not be a profitable sale for you online.
Beware what advice you take when building your inventory. Many people do not stay in this business because they do not know how to build a good and appropriately sized inventory.
