How to Make Organza Roses

Organza roses make beautiful, elegant bouquets and are easy to assemble. The instructions that follow are for the creation of one long-stemmed rose. This ribbon rose can be altered, quite simply, to use as a corsage, to top a gift or to add a romantic touch to your clothing and accessories. These roses take little time to fashion. Shorten the prepackaged wire stems to make shorter organza stemmed roses to craft a breathtaking bride's bouquet that she will not want to toss.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 1/2-inch-wide organza ribbon, 1 1/2 yards
  • Toothpick
  • Wire floral stem
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Scissors
  • Floral tape
  • Silk rose leaf

Instructions

    • 1

Pull out the end of the wire on one side of the organza ribbon 3 inches. Tie the wire around a toothpick. The toothpick will work as a stop so the wire does not get pulled out of the ribbon. Pull the opposite end of the same wire. Gather the organza ribbon tightly on the wire. Do not cut the wire.

    • 2

Curl the end of a floral stem into a small loop by wrapping it around the tip of needle nose pliers. Remove the toothpick from the end of the organza ribbon and thread the wire through the loop of the stem. Tie the ribbon wire to secure.

    • 3

Set the loop of the floral stem on the ribbon. Turn the corner of the ungathered edge down over the stem loop. Begin wrapping the organza ribbon. After a couple of wraps, wind the remaining portion of the ribbon wire tightly around the ribbon at the base of the wrapped rose. Continue to wrap the remaining ribbon loosely around the stem. Turn down the corner of the ungathered edge over the rolled stem. Wrap the pulled gathered wire tightly around the ribbon at the base of the rose and cut off the excess.

    • 4

Wrap the floral tape tightly around the rose base over the wrapped ribbon wire. Continue to wrap the floral stem with the floral tape. Approximately one-fourth of the way down the stem, lay a silk rose leaf and continue to wrap the floral stem, catching the stem of the leaf under the tape. Repeat the process to make a bouquet of organza roses.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make corsages by shortening the length of the floral stem and attaching the leaf closer to the rose. Curl the stem using needle nose pliers. To make organza roses to attach to clothing or accessories, eliminate the floral stem and hand stitch the ribbon as you roll it to form a rose and to secure.
