Take some time to consider what your prayer goals are. Decide what you feel is an appropriate amount of time to spend in daily prayer and then decide how you will accomplish this prayer time. Also consider your daily schedule and what will be the best time of day for you to spend in prayer.

Some people prefer to start the day with the bulk of their prayer time. Other people have more time to devote to prayer later in the day. Some people prefer to spend a block of time praying before bed in the evening. Sometimes, people opt to divide their prayer time into several smaller blocks of time that are sprinkled throughout the day. Decide what works for you and what will accomplish your prayer goals. Write down your goals in the notebook. Writing down goals makes you more likely to accomplish them.

Plan your schedule to incorporate the daily prayer goals you have set. If you will be spending time in prayer every morning, make sure you get up early enough to pray and still have enough time to get ready for the other necessary activities of the day. If you will be spending time throughout the day in prayer, allow for these blocks of time in your day. If you will be spending time in prayer before bed, allow for this time before you need to retire for the night.

Begin each prayer session by setting the timer for the designated time. This will keep you accountable to yourself. Decide how long you will spend in prayer for that prayer session, set the timer, and then try to forget about the timer. Focus not on the timer, but on the quality of your prayer time, so you will derive the most effectiveness from it. When the timer goes off, wrap up the specific prayer you are engaged in and continue your prayers at the next time you have scheduled for yourself.

In the notebook, write down each day's prayer goals and how much time you actually spend in prayer to keep a record of your progress and achievements.
