System32 is a folder on your computer containing all of the important system files required for your machine to operate. Any piece of software you install will put important files in this folder. It is not recommended that you delete or change anything in this folder unless you know what you're doing, as doing so could render certain programs unusable. If you do need to make changes to this folder, you need to know how to find it.

Instructions

    • 1

Open any folder on your computer. The specific folder doesn't matter; all you need to do is have access to the "Folder Options" utility in Windows Explorer.

    • 2

Select "Folder Options" from the "Tools" drop-down menu. From there, click on the "View" tab. This will give you all of the options for how your computer displays files and folders. Check the box that says "Show Hidden Files and Folders," and then click "OK."

    • 3

Open "My Computer" on your desktop.

    • 4

Click on the icon for your C drive. This is your computer's main hard drive.

    • 5

Click on the icon that says "Windows." This will display the contents of your Windows folder. System32 has always been located in the "Windows" folder, but it was hidden so no changes could accidentally be made to it. Now that you are viewing hidden files and folders, you can access the System32 folder.
