  • Plain household bleach

      Remove any floating debris using your pool skimmer.

      Drain the pool. Scrub the sides and bottom with a 50/50 solution of bleach and water. Rinse the pool with a hose and refill. Skip this step if the sides and bottom of the pool aren't dirty.

      Add 1 gallon of plain household bleach per 10,000 gallons of water to your pool. Check the label to make sure the bleach is at least 5.95% sodium hypochlorite.
