Teenagers are often confused and create difficulties for parents, friends, peers and teachers. Teenage bodies are also going through so many changes that their minds cannot keep up. If you are a teen and want to know how to dress in fashion and in vogue, or if you are a family member of a teen, or a good friend, you may want to know how, what and why teens are wearing certain clothes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fashion magazines
  1. Step 1

Read teenage fashion magazines, such as "CosmoGirl" or "Seventeen." Look through these carefully for ideas on what would look good on teens.

  2. Step 2

Observe teenagers at a local mall or other teen hangout. This is one of the best ways to get the local scoop on what is in fashion in different areas of the country.

  3. Step 3

Shop the mall. Investigate the clothes racks, look at the displays and ask the sales associates what are the best sellers. Look at the store catalogue to see how the fashions mix and match.

  4. Step 4

Attend teen functions. Whether a dance, sports activity, or party, make lots of mental notes on what you like, what you don't and where this fits in the fashion scale.

  5. Step 5

Ask the teens themselves. Go into different groups and sub-groups at local events; ask them about their clothes, fashion choices and the reasons behind them.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you want to ask teens for their opinions on fashion, be sure and do it in an open, nonthreatening way, so as not to cause them to immediately rebel.
