Snow globes are popular collectibles for children and adults. A holiday or birthday snow globe card is perfect for a collector. The card is made using vellum, which is a paper that you can see through. It has the perfect cloudy effect that is similar to a real snow globe. Paper craft a scene inside your snow globe card or use your family Christmas portrait for a unique gift this year.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Card stock
  • Bone folder
  • Clear vellum
  • Scrap paper
  • Paper punchies of shapes
  • Zig pen
  • Adhesive
  • Vellum glue dots
  • Decorating chalk
  1. Step 1

Plan the scene you want to have inside your snow globe and sketch it out. For example, sketch a snowman, tree and snowflakes.

  2. Step 2

Use a bone folder to fold a piece of card stock in half. Set aside.

  3. Step 3

Trace around a 4 to 4 1/2-inch circle on blue paper and a second circle on vellum. Cut both circles out. If you are using a family portrait for your snow globe, cut the circle from the photo, skip steps 4 through 6 and mount the photo onto the blue paper circle.

  4. Step 4

Punch or trace out two 1-inch circles, a tree and several snowflakes with punch tools or stencils.

  5. Step 5

Place the blue circle on your work surface. Arrange the circles to make a snowman. Add the tree and snowflakes. Adhere these shapes when they are positioned as you want them.

  6. Step 6

Draw a face on the snowman with the black Zig marker pen. Cut out a hat and scarf from scrap paper and add them to the snowman.

  7. Step 7

Use a ruler to mark and measure a 3 1/2-inch long by 1/2-inch wide rectangle in brown or dark red paper. This is the wooden base of your globe.

  8. Step 8

Add color dimension and shadows to the scene and the wooden base with scrapbooking decorator chalk. Brush the chalk on the snowman scene and wooden base with the enclosed chalk brush or a cotton swab. Let it dry at least two hours.

  9. Step 9

Place the vellum over the scene and adhere it at the bottom.

  10. Step 10

Place the rectangular wooden base at the bottom of the globe. Adhere the base to the bottom of the globe.

  11. Step 11

Adhere the snow globe to the card front with vellum adhesive dots. Stencil or hand write a greeting on the front of the card. Adhere a few snowflakes on the front of the card.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use only vellum adhesive on the transparent paper or your card will be ruined.
