1
Disconnect the power to the dryer. This can be done by simply unplugging the dryer completely, or by shutting the power down to the entire outlet at the fuse box. Either way you do it, make sure you do it. You don't want to mess with anything that uses electricity while it still has power going to it.
-
2
Pull the dryer away from the wall. You will need to be able to work behind and in front of it, so try to maneuver it into a location you can work on both sides. If you can't, start by working in the back.

3
Remove the access panel on the back of the dryer. You will probably need to remove some screws from the panel in order to get it off. Removing this piece should give you a view of the motor and idler pulley.
-
4
Inspect the idler pulley and the belt attached to the motor. Often times the idler pulley will get worn out and begin to cause a high pitch squealing noise. It should be pretty obvious if it is worn out. If it is worn then head to the store to get a replacement. Ensure you get the exact same model, even slightly different models can cause the same or different problems to start immediately. If the idler pulley looks fine, continue on.
-
5
Replace the access panel and go around the front of the machine.
-
6
Remove the cabinet of the dryer and also disconnect the drum. For this you will also need your screwdriver and probably the directions for your particular model dryer, because each dryer has a different way of removing the cabinet.
-
7
Look at the rollers on the bottom of your machine. See if there is anything lodge inside of them or if they look worn. If they do, you will want to replace them. Again, making sure that you have the same model roller than you are using now. Many times a kit can be bought that includes the rollers, belt and idler pulley, so you may want to look into that option.
