How to have a beautiful vegetable garden in the hot desert. How to plant, the best location for a vegetable garden in the desert. How to make your own organic fertilizer for your vegetable garden.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vegetable Plants
  • 2 Bags of soil
  • 1 bag steer manure
  1. Step 1

First thing, you need to consider. Where would be the best place to plant the vegetables? The area should have partial sun, and not full sun, as this is the only possible way a garden could thrive in the hot desert, during the summer months. The desert temperature can reach 110 degrees and your plants will wilt from the heat if you do not place the plant in the correct area. If your yard does not have an area, where you garden would have partial shade during the day. Improvise you could use a large garden umbrella, this will work perfect to block some of the sun.
You have found the perfect partial shaded area, next thing is to prepare the soil, you will begin digging down 1foot in the soil, and next you will need to purchase 2 bags of rich potting soil for gardens and 1 bag of steer manure. Once you have the bags of soil, you will want to incorporate them into the sandy soil.
You will now level the area, if planting lettuce, you will want to create mounds in rows, be sure you leave adequate space for growing. Using a large stick, a broom handle works perfect for marking the spaces, where you plan to plant the vegetables.

  2. Step 2

Now you're ready to start planting, if you have purchased large vegetables such as, corn, or tomatoes, make sure to plant these in the back, considering the height of the pants once they become established. Most vegetable plants in stores today have a biodegradable pot, so you can stick the whole plant, with the pot in the ground. If you purchase the vegetables in a different type of container gently turn it on the side and roll, turn upside down, and the plant should slide out easily. Place the plants in your pre-made holes and gently apply pressure on the surrounding soil, to remove any air bubbles around the plant.

  3. Step 3

Once you have finished planting, the most important part of your garden is to begin watering and they will grow, be sure to water twice daily in the desert, morning and evening are the perfect time.
Keeping your Garden organic and pesticide free is just as important; to do this you're going to need a small bucket, which you will designate for vegetable scraps, and coffee grounds, These items will become your organic fertilizers, everyday take your scraps, put them in the ground around the vegetables, being careful not to disturb the roots, cover well with soil, these techniques will help in creating a lush desert vegetable garden.

Tips & Warnings
  • When choosing vegetable pick ones with flower buds on them.
  • Do not use any pesticides Organic is better.
