You are craving chocolate covered strawberries or Grandma’s homemade peppermint bark, so you go to the trouble of finding the recipe and gathering the ingredients. Then you stop short. Melting chocolate requires the use of a double boiler. But who has one of those just lying around in their kitchen??? Never fear! With this little known secret method, your cravings will soon be satisfied.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather together supplies and ingredients. You will need a medium sauce pan, an oven safe dish or metal bowl that is small and light enough to float in sauce pan, metal spaghetti tongs, water, a spoon, and chocolate or almond bark.

  2. Step 2

Put enough water in the sauce pan so as that the oven safe dish will float without touching the bottom of the pan.

  3. Step 3

    On medium-low, heat the water.

  4. Step 4

Set the oven safe dish into the water and add the chocolate or almond bark.

  5. Step 5

Stir the chocolate several times per minute. This will allow the chocolate to melt evenly and keep it from sticking to the bottom. If you have a hard time stirring the chocolate because the top dish moves, use the metal tongs to hold it in place with one hand while stirring with the other.

  6. Step 6

As soon as the chocolate has evenly melted, remove it from the heat. Chocolate is easily scorched so watch carefully.

  7. Step 7

Voila! You have melted chocolate without a double boiler. Now use it to make your favorite dessert recipes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don’t allow any water in the chocolate while stirring. Just a small amount can change or even ruin the chocolate’s consistency.
