Crown molding adds beauty and value to your home. Even if you have never installed crown molding before, you will find that using crown corners makes the job simple, and the crown corners add a special flair and character to the room.

To install crown molding using crown corners, follow these simple instructions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • crown molding
  • crown blocks for inside corners
  • crown blocks for outside corners
  1. Step 1

COUNT THE NUMBER AND KIND OF CORNERS IN EACH ROOM

If you plan to install crown molding in your living room, count every angle in the room, keeping track of how many of the corners are inside corners and how many of the corners are outside corners.

  2. Step 2

ORDER CROWN BLOCKS TO MATCH YOUR CROWN MOLDING

You will want your corner blocks to match your crown molding pattern. Your builder supply assistant can help you choose the style and pattern of your molding and can help you choose the corner molding blocks that you need.

  3. Step 3

    INSTALL INSIDE CORNER BLOCKS

Install inside corner blocks by placing the corner blocks into the corner carefully. Nail into place, using a nail set to avoid hammer blow marks on the corners.

  4. Step 4

FIT CROWN MOLDING STRIPS AGAINST THE CORNERS

Fit the crown molding strips against the corners and nail into place, using the nail set. Make certain there is a tight fit before permanently nailing in place.

  5. Step 5

    INSTALL OUTSIDE CORNER BLOCKS

Outside corner molding blocks are fastened in place after the straight molding strips are fastened to the wall. Match pattern carefully and secure with nails. Use the nail set. Putty nail holes before painting or staining and finishing.
