Things You'll Need:
- Keyboard Tray
- Computer
- Desk
- Chair
-
Step 1
Put the keyboard and mouse on the keyboard tray. It's important for ergonomics that the mouse be at the same level as the keyboard, or you could hurt your shoulder with reaching. Some older keyboard trays don't have room for a mouse. If yours doesn't, it's often possible to attach an extension to the right or left for the mouse.
-
Step 2
Adjust your chair so your feet are flat on the floor, and your thighs are parallel to the floor, or your knees are slightly lower.
-
Step 3
Adjust the keyboard tray so that the top of the keyboard is at the same height as your elbows as you sit in the chair or slightly below.
-
Step 4
Do not tilt the front of the keyboard tray down. Many keyboard trays have been manufactured with the ability to do this, but this makes the keyboard position less ergonomic. Keep the keyboard tray level, or you can tilt the back of the keyboard tray down just slightly; especially if the front is kept slightly below the elbows.
