Instructions

    • 1
It's as simple as a penny.

When stung by a bee, pull the stinger out with tweezers or other flat object, wipe the area with an alcohol swab and tape a penny firmly to the area for 15 minutes. The pain will lessen and by morning there will be no redness or swelling.

      Take precautions with allergic reactions.

If you are allergic to stings, follow step one and take a Benadryl. Go to the Dr.'s office or hospital depending on the severity of your reaction.

    • 3
Get a friend to help where you can't reach.

If you get stung in a place you cannot reach, call a friend to help you wash the area and tape a penny to the bee sting.

      Always keep pennies on hand.

Keep pennies and Band-Aids with you wherever you go this summer to treat the unexpected bee sting for yourself or others. The copper in the penny counteracts the bite.

      Be prepared.

Set up an emergency kit for gardeners. Keep it with you while you work in the garden. This kit should contain Scissors, tweezers, gauze, medical tape, alcohol swabs, Band-Aids (waterproof is best), and several pennies. You can add items that are unique to you, Benadryl or other allergy medicines, aspirin, cell phone, or anything you think you might need depending on your personal circumstances.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep pennies with you wherever you go for the unexpected bee sting.

  • Older pennies have a higher copper content.

  • Wash the pennies to clean any germs away and keep them seperate in a little purse or plastic container for just this purpose.

  • If you suffer from allergies use the penny method, and contact your doctor or go to the hospital anyway.
