Step 1
Only wash your hair a couple of times per week. Washing your hair everyday removes natural oils making your hair dry and more prone to damage. Use a deep conditioner at least once a week.
-
Step 2
If you have curly hair, don't fight it during the summer! Instead, let your hair dry naturally and use a light-hold mouse or an anti-frizz styling product to prevent frizzy hair. This is especially important if you live in a humid climate.
-
Step 3
When you're going to be out in the sun, use a product that has UV protection. There are several new hair products available including leave-in conditioners and sprays that have UV protection. Better yet, wear a hat to protect your hair from the sun.
-
Step 4
After swimming, spray a detangling spray in your hair and then gently comb through using a wide-tooth comb. Start combing your hair at the ends and gradually work your way up to the root to prevent breakage. If you swim in a pool on a regular basis, buy a special shampoo designed to remove chlorine.
-
Step 5
Keep styling to a minimum during the summer. Blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons can damage your hair. Wear your hair in a chic low ponytail or create beach waves by twirling small sections of your hair and letting it dry naturally.
