Use a Straightening Iron

Using a straightening iron or flatiron is relatively easy. However you should only use it on hair that is completely dry. You should also invest in a good quality flatiron preferably with a ceramic plate not metal. Ceramic diffuses heat better then metal and helps create less damage to your hair.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First you should apply a styling cream to your damp hair. If you have curly coarse or thick hair apply some straightening cream on your hair. Also you should apply a leave in conditioner while your hair is still damp. Allow your hair to completely dry! If it is wet and you use the flatiron it will damage your hair.

  2. Step 2

Coat your strands with a heat protective product. Now separate your hair into four to five sections depending on the thickness and length of your hair. Blow dry if desired.

  3. Step 3

Now take a one to a two inch section of your hair and clamp the iron down as close to your scalp as possible. Slowly pull the iron down to the ends of your hair. Repeat until all your hair is done.

  4. Step 4

Now comb your hair and apply a glossing serum to your hair for added shine. You can also choose to apply hairspray and comb your hair again to tame any flyaway's or frizz.

  5. Step 5

You should always read the instructions that come with your flatiron. Flatirons with temperature control are ideal so you can adjust the temperature best for your hair.

on 6/17/2009 Thanks for the tips. I use a flat iron, but never put any kind of creams on my hair before or after. Will have to try.
