Step 1
Stay in Sturgeon Bay rather than the more northern towns of Door County. Sturgeon Bay is just over the bridge and about 30 minutes away from the other towns in Door County. It is located outside of the "heart" of the activity, and as a result has much better deals on hotel rooms. Since most of Door County is seen by driving from town to town, the fact that you're a bit further away won't make much difference. You'll merely add a few minutes on to your drive each day.

Step 2
Find a hotel with a refrigerator and microwave. You can find several hotels at a reasonable cost (such as the American Inn in Sturgeon Bay) that also offer a refrigerator, iron, and coffee maker in your room. Adding these amenities to your stay will help you save money by reheating leftovers and making your own coffee as opposed to buying it.
-
Step 3
Opt for lunch meals out, dinner meals in. If you're really on a tight budget, eat all your noon-time meals out and bring half home to eat later for dinner. Add to that a few snacks from home. You'll still be able to enjoy the varies eateries in Door County but you'll also be saving a considerable amount of money.
-
Step 4
Find a hotel that offers continental breakfast. One strategy for saving money is to eat breakfast at your hotel. This works even better if your place offers a free continental breakfast. Fill up with an early-morning meal so you won't feel the need to eat out at lunch. This will save you money and allow you more time to shop.
-
Step 5
Limit purchases. There are many great stores in Door County and you will be tempted to purchase quite a few unique artesian pieces for your home. Before you buy, however, think of the exact place you will use the piece. Before buying, go to a different part of the store or even leave the shop and come back. Allow yourself a minute away from the item in question, so when you go back you'll be looking at it with fresh eyes. Then, you'll only purchase the items you truly desire.
-
Step 6
Go at off-peak times. The late fall and winter months are generally considered the slowest, and you can often get good deals for hotels and meals during this time. Be sure that if you travel at an off-peak time, the stores and activities you are most interested in will be open. Call ahead.

Step 7
Watch for shopping specials. The Door County Chamber of Commerce often has certain specials that save you money on shopping and hotel stays. Sign up for their newsletter at http://www.doorcounty.com/.
