How to Get Rid of the Hardware Diagnostics Menu on My Dell PC

The Dell Hardware Diagnostics program allows you to run tests on almost every piece of hardware on your Dell computer. These tests help you to troubleshoot and solve problems. When you first install the Dell Hardware Diagnostics tool, the menu displays every time you boot your computer. The menu also displays after you've used the tool. You can prevent the menu from displaying on your computer automatically. This will remove the menu until you run the Dell Diagnostics utility. The Diagnostics tool is preinstalled on older models, but you may have to download and install it from the Dell Support website.

Instructions

1. Start your Dell computer and wait for the Dell Hardware Diagnostics menu to display. If it doesn't appear, open the utility by going to "Start," then "All Programs" and "Dell Hardware Diagnostics."

2. Locate the "Display at Startup" check box at the bottom of the diagnostics screen. Un-check the box to prevent the menu from showing at Startup. Restart your computer to ensure that the menu no longer appears.

3. Edit your Startup folder if the menu still displays. Go to "Start," "All Programs" and "Startup."

4. Right-click the Dell Hardware Diagnostics tool and click "Delete." Click "OK" to the message stating this will only remove the link and not the application.

5. Remove the entire Dell Hardware Diagnostics tool if you want to remove the menu from ever displaying again. Go to "Start," "Control Panel" and "Add/Remove Programs." Select the Dell Hardware Diagnostics tool and click "Remove." A wizard will step you through the process.

Tips & Warnings

• You can run the Dell Hardware Diagnostic Tool using the CD that came with your Dell computer or through the Start menu.

• Only remove the hardware tool if absolutely necessary. You will not be able to use the utility again until you reinstall it.
