If you're considering designing your own car or you just like to create original models, you will need to start with a drawing that encompasses the details of the vehicle. This means drawing your cars as realistic as possible, from every angle, right down to the last pinstripe.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencils (lead and color)
  • Eraser
  • Sketch paper
  1. Step 1

Draw the rough outline of your car. Decide whether you are doing an original car or drawing your version of a car that already exists. You can use a reference photo and make alterations in your drawing.

  2. Step 2

Sketch a rough outline of the car. It's best to start at the front and set the drawing at a slight angle, which will allow you to show the front of the car as well as the side. This will also give you more to work with when you start adding the three-dimensional details.

  3. Step 3

Draw the grill of the car first. Work your way from the front of the car to the back. Try to find the lines and geometric shapes of the car. Don't worry about refining yet. Use straight lines to draw the roof and the side of the body, angling the lines down to form the back of the car. Sketch circles or squares where you will later develop the tires.

  4. Step 4

Sketch in the details that will define the windshield, rims, headlights and the top of the steering wheel through the windshield. Keep your lines light for now. You'll darken them as you begin to shape your drawing.

  5. Step 5

Erase the hard lines and shapes and replace them with the more refined contours of the vehicle you're drawing. Add shading to bring out three dimensions and any decals or other distinguishing features you might want to add.

  6. Step 6

Use color pencils to color the car, blending the colors to match the shading. You can use the eraser to remove some of the color pencil to create metallic shine in the paint.
