What could be easier than crafting an attractive necklace with a piece of leather cord and a focal bead? This is a popular look, and the good news is that it is simple and inexpensive to create. No tools are required, because there are no clasps necessary if the necklace is made with only two slipknots. Learn how to make a slipknot necklace and create this look for yourself or as a gift.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Leather or suede cording (2mm thickness)
  • Focal bead (make sure the cording will pass through the hole)
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Wrap the cording around your neck to determine the amount of cording needed to create the necklace. As you wrap the cording, position it to be the desired length around your neck and then overlap the ends of the cording by approximately 4 inches. Cut the cording to the necessary length.

  2. Step 2

Place the focal bead on the leather cording and push it to the center point of the cording. You may tie a simple overhand knot on each side of the bead to hold it in place, or you can just leave the focal bead free to move on the cording.

  3. Step 3

Lay the cording on a work surface and overlap the ends by 4 inches again. You will tie two slipknots on the cording, one on each end of the cording. Take one end of the cording and tie a simple knot with it around the other cord. When you tie a knot around the other cord, the knot you tie will slide across the cord. Take the other end of the cording and tie another simple knot with it around the other cord. Again, this knot should simply slide back and forth along the cord. These are simple single knots; they should not be double knots. Do not tie the knots too tightly to allow them to slide.

  4. Step 4

Slide the knots back and forth to make the necklace longer or shorter as desired.
