When Windows XP is initially set up on your computer, you will normally choose a username. A username will allow you to customize your features and add a password to protect your files. It will also allow more than one user to use the computer while maintaining privacy. There may come a time when you want to change you username. Perhaps you originally picked something silly, and now you are in a professional setting. Whatever the reason, it will just take a few seconds to change your username.

Instructions

      Click on the green "Start" button located in one of the corners of your screen. This will open a program menu.

      Click on the "Control Panel" link in the program menu.

      Click "User Accounts" in the new menu that opens.

      Choose a task and click the "Change an account" link in the new menu that opens.

      Choose the user whose name you wish to change by clicking on the appropriate user name.

      Click the "Change my name" link in the new menu that opens.

      Type in the new name. The old name will appear in the form, you can either delete it or type over it. After typing in the name, click the "Change Name" button in the lower right-hand corner, and your user name will change.
