While all the lights in the Silverado are important, the brake lights are certainly a priority for safety. The rear taillight assembly in the Silverado contains the running light/brake light (dual filament and action bulb), the directional and the backup light sockets. While replacing any one of these, it's be a good idea to check all the rear lights while you're at it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Be sure that the light switch is in the off position and the keys are removed from the ignition.

  2. Step 2

Open the tailgate and locate the two screws on the side rail of the tailgate that hold the taillight assembly in place. Remove the two screws with a screwdriver.

  3. Step 3

Pull the taillight assembly away from the back of the Silverado.

  4. Step 4

Locate and remove the correct socket from the back of the taillight assembly. Press inward on the socket retaining tab and turn counterclockwise to separate the socket from the assembly.

  5. Step 5

Press inward slightly on the bulb in the socket and turn a quarter of a turn counterclockwise to remove the bulb from the socket.

  6. Step 6

Insert a new bulb into the socket. Test it by turning on the lights and having someone step on the brakes.

  7. Step 7

Reassemble the socket and taillight assembly.
