How to Look Up the Email Header in Outlook

An email header can be useful for determining the origination of an email. The header shows the server path the email took from the email sender to the email recipient. However, the headers of spam email are often incorrect through the effort of the spammer. The email header information can be obtained easily in Outlook.

      Open Outlook by double clicking on it. Open an email by double clicking on it.

      Click the "View" menu at the top.

      Select "Options" from the View menu. The Options window will pop up.

      View the message header at the bottom of the Options window. There is a scroll bar along the right side to allow you to view the entire header.

  • Different versions of Outlook may work differently. Look for similar menu names.
