Remove Lime Deposit From a Tea Kettle

Your trusty tea kettle brings you boiled water for your favorite hot beverages every day. Along the way, lime deposit is building up on the inside and outer rims of your kettle. Here are some steps you should take to remove lime deposit from your tea kettle and get it sparkling clean once again.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vinegar
  • Sponge
  1. Step 1

Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of water into your tea kettle and keep it on a low boil for five minutes.

  2. Step 2

Turn off the heat and let the vinegar/water stand in the tea kettle for 15 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Dump out the vinegar/water and wipe the inside of your tea kettle with a clean, damp sponge to remove as much lime deposit as possible.

  4. Step 4

Rinse out your tea kettle with clean water until you no longer smell the vinegar.

  5. Step 5

Repeat as necessary for stubborn lime deposit.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also substitute lemon juice or ascorbic acid for the vinegar to remove lime deposit from your tea kettle.
  • Wait until your tea kettle has cooled off before you attempt to touch it or clean out the inside.
