How to Text Message on a BlackBerry Storm

Use your BlackBerry Storm to send SMS text messages.

Learning to text message on your BlackBerry Storm enables you to communicate more quickly than making a phone call and can be more convenient. Navigate the touch screen by familiarizing yourself, using a few tips.

Instructions

1. Send a message by pressing the BlackBerry menu key. Select the message icon from the menu. It appears as a large envelope. On the bottom left of the screen appears a small envelope logo covering a large logo that looks like a lined piece of paper with a green pen on the right side. This option appears on the far left of the automatically appearing buttons inside the message menu. Press this button.

2. Choose the message type to compose. Your options are email, pin, SMS Text, MMS as well as any outside applications you may have installed, such as Instant Message and/or Facebook. Click "SMS Text."

3. After you press "SMS Text," a writing screen will appear with a box reading "To:" at the top. A touch-screen keyboard appears at the bottom. The BlackBerry Storm will search your address book automatically when you type a contact name. Begin entering a name in the "To:" field and select the note's recipient from the list that appears.

4. For contact phone numbers not in your list, press and hold the bottom left key of the keyboard that displays "!?123" to lock your keyboard to the numbers screen. Type the number of the SMS Text message recipient and press the blue highlighted box which displays this number when you are finished. The keyboard will reset.

5. Using your finger, press in the blank space below the "To:" field to select your message body. Begin typing in this space to construct your message body. When you have finished typing your message, press the BlackBerry menu key on the body of your phone and select "Send" from the Options menu. Your text message will be sent to the recipient you specified.
