There are many different ways to take screen shots in Linux. KSnapshot can be installed in both Gnome and KDE and has some great features, such as time delay, exclude window decorations and direct print from the KSnapshot GUI.

        Open the KSnapshot program found in "Start -> Graphics." Make sure the application is on the same desktop as the screen shot you want.

        Choose the capture mode. If you want the entire desktop choose "Full Screen." If you only want a certain window, choose "Window Under Cursor."

        Click the "New Snapshot" button.

        Position the white cross that appears over the screen or the window. Left-click your mouse.

        Look at the KSnapshot window and make sure you got the correct shot. Click either "Copy to Clipboard", "Save As.." or "Open With" to continue working with your image.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Use the Time Delay function if you need to switch desktops before taking the screenshot.
