One of the revolutionary things about Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console is at any time you can add an external hard drive into the mix, giving you more room to store saved files, downloads, pictures and anything else. In the ,this would have been a difficult to impossible task as many video game consoles did not support this. The PS3 makes it wonderfully simple.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Connect your hard drive to the PS3 using the USB cable that was included in the box with the hard drive. Plug one end into the hard drive and the other end into an open USB slot on the PS3. These USB slots are located on the front of the unit.

  2. Step 2

Plug your hard drive into the wall. As the hard drive is external, it needs its own power source to operate. Plug the hard drive's AC adapter into a wall outlet and plug the other end of the AC adapter cord into the hard drive itself.

  3. Step 3

Turn on your PS3. The hard drive will be automatically recognized by the PS3, and you can immediately begin saving files to it and accessing them at whatever frequency you like.

Tips & Warnings
  • External hard drives can be found at any electronics retailer, like Best Buy, for extremely competitive prices. You can currently buy hard drives for commercial uses in sizes of up to 1 terabyte. The size of the hard drive you purchase doesn't matter, just as long as it is of the external variety.
