It's mosquito season!

Making a mosquito repellent that works is easy and inexpensive. By combining a few essential oils in a spray bottle with water, you will be able to make a repellent that suits your needs, is fresh and easily customizable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean spray bottle (small)
  • citrus essential oil
  • water
  1. Step 1

Either buy any citrus based essential oil: orange oil, lemon, lime, grapefruit, etc. or

  2. Step 2

You can alternatively make your own infusion of citrus fruit rinds in water. Soak the rinds of your citrus fruits in water for several days to infuse the scent in the water. This is not as pure as the essential oil, but will work well.

  3. Step 3

Either bottle your homemade infusion in the spray bottle, or add several drops of your citrus essential oils to water and store in your pray bottle.

  4. Step 4

Making your own mosquito repellent is that easy. Other citrus based oils include neroli and bergamot. You can experiment with the scent to make it something you enjoy and mosquitos hate!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make small batches to keep it fresh and potent
  • Play around with the scent until you get a blend that works for you
  • It has been said that mosquitos are attracted to people who eat a lot of sugar...could this be part of the problem in your case?
