How to Get a Discount at Home Depot

I have been able to get extra discounts on several occasions at Home Depot. These discounts have included 50 percent additional off on clearance items such as faucets and kichen sinks. You don't necessarily have to pay the price that is listed when it comes to clearance items.

Instructions

    • 1

First decide what in-stock item you need to buy such as appliances, faucets, tubs, sinks, toilets, etc.

    • 2

Now search the store for clearance items. These are usually found on the end-caps towards the middle aisle of the store, and the back aisle. Look for items that have a clearance sticker. Also look for "open-box" return items. These can include even large items like stoves and refrigerators. Look for display items that have been taken down. This may take several trips to the store to find an item you need. Also you may have to be flexible in the color, style of the item.

Look at the lowest price marked on the item. Now decide how much you are willing to pay for the item. Physically take the item up to the Customer Service desk and ask for the manager.

The manager may not come to the desk. If not, tell the clerk that you would like to purchase this item that you found on the clearance rack, but you would like to see if you could have a bit of a discount on it because you are willing to buy it right now if they will knock a bit off for you. You can ask for anything between 10% and 50% off, depending on the item. I once got 50% off of a faucet and 30% off of a display model sink. Some of these items are special order which they cannot return to the manufacturer, so they really want to sell it if they have a buyer willing to buy at that moment.

It is likely that they will offer you some sort of discount. If they do not, ask if they can hold the item and you will come back when they mark it down further. State that you really want/need the item and just need a little break on the price. This will usually work.

Tips & Warnings

  • Visit often as items are taken off display or returned to the store daily

  • If you notice a scratch, dent, or flaw, use that as a basis for asking for an additional discount
