Small Business Ideas
Small Business Ideas
Henkster, Netherlands

People say that some of the best businesses and ideas have come during tough times. If the recession is affecting you, or you just got laid off, it might be a good time to start thinking about small business ideas. There are thousands, from franchise opportunities to online home businesses. The key is finding a small business start up that will be profitable early on and not cost to much at the beginning, to avoid small business loans.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

If you already have an idea, do research and maybe talk to others who had the same business concept as you. You can research online to see how feasible your business idea is, and how much you will have to invest to get things running. Small business software is also available, which I would suggest once you actually go through with your concept.

  2. Step 2

    **Entrepreneur websites**

Entrepreneur.com and other companies print information for people looking to start their own business. Every month they have new small business ideas that will help get your brain firing. Also, there are forums that you can go into and brainstorm with others. Who knows, maybe you'll find a future business partner in there.

  3. Step 3
    Online Small Business

    Online Small Business

    **Start online**

The cheapest way to start a small business is the internet. There are literally thousands of opportunities out there if you have the drive. Think about what you can get cheaper than everyone else, then open an ebay store selling it. In the ebay store, create a link to your business website. I started a website selling American Apparel clothing because I had a wholesale account with them. Look online for small business opportunities and wholesale warehouses.

  4. Step 4

    **Books* *

Go on Amazon or another online bookstore, and search for business idea books. There are several great books and eBooks. Find the most recent one with the highest ratings. A few books offer great ideas for low cost start ups. Many of these are home based businesses, which are the easiest to start.

  5. Step 5

    **Attend a franchise convention**

Every big city has franchise conventions with hundreds of businesses for you to look at. They range from the lowest costs of start up being around $500 with the most expensive being millions. Franchises offer a proven business plan with support of a big corporation behind you. Some are brick and mortar while some are ecommerce businesses. Even if you aren't into franchising, attend the conventions just to get your brain thinking of great small business ideas.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once you have your idea, write a great business plan using business software or use a professional business plan template.
  • Consider small business insurance once you have things going to protect your self.
