Things You'll Need:
- Paint
- Plants
- Door Mat
- Fountain
- Seating
-
Step 1
Clean: Start by cleaning your front porch. Brush away any cobwebs from the upper portions of the porch and work your way down. Then sweep the floor of the porch. Next hose the porch down with water and let dry. Clean the front door with a warm mixture of soap and water and a soft rag.
-
Step 2
Seating: If your porch is large enough, add one or two chairs. These should be light and airy such as outdoor wicker with brightly colored cushions.
-
Step 3
Freshen: Repaint your front door. Choose a happy summer color like yellow, green or red.
-
Step 4
Numbers: Evaluate your house number. Is it worn and faded? Is it noticeable from the street? Purchase some wooden numbers at a craft store, or home improvement store, and paint them glossy white. This will add a fresh look to the whole porch.
-
Step 5
Art: Hang a wall plaque near the door with a summer theme. This could be garden related or related to a summer beach destination.
-
Step 6
Green: Add several live plants in large pots. Instead of flowers try live green palm tree plants to give the feeling of a rainforest.
-
Step 7
Underfoot: A natural fiber mat, of course. Choose an oversized outdoor rug. The small 2 x 3 foot mats simply are not large enough to make a dramatic statement.
