Tell if your Fruits and Vegetables Are Organic

We all know organic is much better than genetic, but how can you tell if your apple is organic or genetically grown? As a mother, having this knowledge is important because you want to give the best to your family. It turns out that little pesky sticker on the fruits and vegetables is there for a reason. Each sticker has a PLU code that tells you which is chemically treated, genetic, or organic. Read below to learn how to read these little codes the next time your are shopping for fruits and vegetables.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check out the sticker on your fruit. If you see a number being with a four(4) this tells you that the fruit is grown with chemical assistance.
The code will look like 4011 and only have four digits.

  2. Step 2

Look at the sticker for any PLU code starting with an eight(8) and has five digits. This mean it is genetic. Genetically grown means that it is man made. Do you want to give your family man made food?

  3. Step 3

Check packages also for the PLU codes. Grab a bag of Spinach and check for code beginning with a nine(9). This means it is organic. An easy way for you to remember this is nine is fine.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is easier to remember what they start with instead of how many digits are in the code. (4)chemically assisted (8) generic (9) organic.
