If you are planning a trip that involves a hotel stay, you will want to make sure that you stay in a nice, clean room, in a decent part of town. There are several ways of ensuring these important facts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go online and research hotels in the area in which you wish to stay. Tripadvisor.com is a fabulous resource for travelers. You can read reviews from hundreds of guests who have stayed there, and see guest submitted pictures.

  2. Step 2

Type the name of the hotel into google or yahoo search. See what comes up. You may be able to read reviews or see additional information about the hotel

  3. Step 3

Use Google Earth. You can go to street view and actually see the hotel and all of the businesses that surround it. This will get you a great view of the neighborhood.

  4. Step 4

Ask around. If you have family in the area, ask them about the hotel. They can even visit the place and tell you how it ranks.

  5. Step 5

When making your reservation, make sure that you can cancel within 24 hours and not be charged. This will make getting out of additional days feasible if the hotel is not what you expected.
